– Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency had dragged the House of Representative and its speaker Yakubu Dogara to court over suspension of the former

The judge traveled to Abuja for judges’ conference, a counsel said.

The hearing on the suspension of the former chairman of the House of Representative on Appropriation Abdulmumin Jibrin was stalled today, December 20 at a Federal High Court in Kano.

Jibrin’s constituency, Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency had dragged the House of Representative and its speaker Yakubu Dogara to court over suspension of the former.

The constituency in its suit challenged the legality of the lower house members to suspend Jibrin.

However, the matter did not hold as scheduled because the judge, Idris Koko, was not on seat.

Speaking to journalists at the court house, lead counsel to Kiru/Bebeji constituency, Bashir Muqaddam said Justice Idris was out of the state for the judges’ conference in Abuja.

Muqaddam said since the matter did not hold today, there is the likelihood it will be moved to next year – 2017.

He said on returning from the conference, the judges will embark on vacation for the yuletide season.

He added that the judges are expected to resume sitting on Thursday, January 19, while the case has been fixed for January 18, for mentioning.

Muqaddam said: “Our prayer seeks that the sum of N2bn be given to our client, Hon Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, as payment for damages to his reputation.”

“When we resume on Jan. 18, 2017, the case will come up for mentioning.”

“We want to know whether his whistle blowing role in exposing how the 2016 budget was padded was in contradiction of any stipulated law of the land.

“Fundamentally, we want an immediate reinstatement of the suspended member and the court to also order for the payment of all his (Kofa’s) entitlements for the suspension period.”

Jibrin, a member of the House of Representative was suspended by the Lower House after making several allegations against the House leadership and four other principal officers.

He has since continued with his backlash against Dogara despite call from the House and the All Progressives Congress party to sheath his sword.
