Pictures have emerged online of the deplorable state of Nigerian prisons and the inmates standing trial or awaiting judgment.
According to a Facebook user identified as Prince Gwamnashu Harrison, who said he met with some of the inmates during his visit to the Asaba prison in Delta state on Friday, December 16, many of the prisoners looked really pathetic and the photos he shared explained just that.
The people whose pictures he shared were suffering one anomaly or another as they apparently lacked medical care.
With the pictures, he wrote: “Today I visited a prison in Delta State Nigeria. This is their condition. No medical facility, no drugs. They are dying. I was able to get a lawyer who has promised to defend them so they can leave prison and get quick medical attention.
“They can’t urinate, they can’t stand for 10minutes. Our laws says they are Innocent until proven guilty. They deserve a better life.I stand with Yali Network to bring awareness to our government on the need for the welfare of Nigeria Prisoners”
