The University of Osun (UNIOSUN) has shut down its institution following an alleged attack by officers of the Nigerian Air Force on its students and members of staff. The Punch reports that in a statement on Tuesday, May 23, the institution said it was closing down its Ipetu Ijesa campus due to the invasion.

The statement read: “The Vice Chancellor has approved that all students of Ipetu Ijesa Campus of Osun State University should proceed on one week break from today Tuesday May 23, 2017.

“The break is necessitated by the invasion of the campus and brutalisations of our staff and students by the men of the Nigerian Airforce Safety Institute, Ipetu Ijesa. “Students are expected back on the campus on Wednesday 31st May 2017.”

We had earlier reported that the officers attached to the Institute of Safety in Ipetu Ijesa, Osun state invaded the campus in armored personnel carriers and other vehicles.

The men reportedly stormed the institution armed with guns, cutlasses, daggers and clubs and other dangerous weapons.

It was learnt that though the cause of their invasion is not yet known, some residents said the Air Force men came to arrest some students, who they claimed were involved in internet fraud, also known as Yahoo.

She said: “Six of our students are on bed in the hospital now, five are being treated on the bench now. Two members of staff were also wounded by these military men.
