Read what has happened to pastor accused of sponsoring Avengers

Niger Delta Avengers

Bishop Sunny Jero, who was being interrogated by police detectives from the Warri area command over an allegation linking him with the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has been cleared by the police.

The bishop who is the founder of the New Salvation Church of Christ was on Wednesday, July 20, interrogated for his alleged links to militants following a petition by two complaints.

The Punch reports that the Delta state police public relations officer, SP. Celestina Kalu, in a statement on Thursday, July 21, exonerated the pastor of the allegation after his house and church were searched by security operatives where nothing was found.

Two persons, Smart Etiemor and Robinson, who wrote the petition against the bishop, were arraigned on a charge of false accusation, an offence punishable under Section 125 of the Criminal Code Cap c21 of Delta state.

Sunny Irabor who is the prosecution counsel, told the court that the suspects allegedly petitioned the complainant on July 14, 2016 over human trafficking, gun running and sponsoring the Niger Delta Avengers.

He said after obtaining a search warrant, the police combed the church and residence of the bishop in Warri alongside the suspects where no incriminating substance was found against the bishop.

He noted that the complainant (Jero ) had to rearrest the suspects for false accusation.

On his part, Bishop Jero said he was innocent of the accusation, adding that great calamity always befalls anyone who blatantly lies against a man of God.
