Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has been declared Nigeria’s best leader ever by a former Christian Association of Nigeria president Sunday Mbang.

The Nation reports that Mbang declared Obasanjo the “best president Nigeria has ever had” on Sunday, March 5 in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Mbang, who said he owed no one any apology on his submission, noted that one of the things that stood Obasanjo out was his habit of always bringing government’s policies and programmes first to God in prayer before making them public.

“This is a man I have known for a very long time. I fell in love with him when I discovered that he held morning devotion daily in Aso Rock when he became president.

“The devotion was attended by his family and other people. That was why he succeeded in government. God never allowed them to impeach him.

“Obasanjo is the best president Nigeria has ever had. I have no apologies about it. He built a chapel inside Aso Rock within three months of getting there,” Mbang said.

The former Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria said this during a sermon at a thanksgiving service at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King (CCGK) inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library to mark the ex-president’s 80th birthday.

In attendance were former President Goodluck Jonathan; former Head of Interim National Government Chief Ernest Shonekan; Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf; Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and ex-Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel.

The monarchs in attendance included the Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi and the Alake of Egbaland Oba Aremu Gbadebo, among others.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has called and felicitated with former president Obasanjo on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Femi Adesina, Buhari’s spokesperson, confirmed that in a phone call from London, where he is resting, President Buhari told the former military ruler (1976 to 1979) and democratically elected president (1999 to 2007) that a time like this provides opportunity to reflect on Obasanjo’s invaluable roles and contributions to the unity and cohesion of Nigeria, the brotherhood of all Africans, as well as peace and amity over the globe.
