Reports from Burkina Faso have it that an attempted coup by loyalists to the country’s ousted president, Blaise Compaore, has been foiled.
According to BBC, the interior minster says confirmed also that ten of the plotters have been arrested, however, those who masterminded the coup are still at large.
Recall that in September, 2015, some loyalists to the former president staged a similar coup but opposition by top generals and street protests made them shed the idea after just one week.
Minister Simon Compaore revealed also that part of the people’s plan was to attack a prison to free some of the people held over their previous failed coup.
The former president who is on exile in Ivory Coast, a neighbouring country, was driven out of power by those who were opposed to his bid to change the constitution to extend his 27-year rule and allegedly committed widespread abuses during his rule.
